A Guide to Choosing the Right Junk Removal Company

If you’re plugged into any Facebook groups in 2023, you know that your options are endless when it comes to finding junk removal.  Daily, you can find Facebook users posting pictures of their trucks and trailers or even selfies, offering to come pick up your appliances, furniture, trash and yard debris for nominal pricing.  So, how do you choose?

Choose a junk removal offer that is safe, honest, and trusted.  What do those mean? Read below!

Junk Removal should be SAFE:
This should be your first requirement for anyone offering junk removal.  Ask the junk removal specialist if they are insured.  Do they carry policies for workman’s compensation, commercial auto, general liability?  Can they produce a Certificate of Insurance if requested?  These are important questions for you as a homeowner.  By inviting a vendor onto your property to complete a service, you open yourself and your homeowners insurance up to being liable for any issues that happen on your property.  The last thing you need is for an uninsured vendor to get hurt or damage something and you end up paying the price!

Junk Removal should be HONEST:
When you communicate with the junk removal company, do you talk to someone who has direct knowledge of the company?  Ask them how they determine pricing.  Are there surcharges that magically appear when the company comes on site?  Additionally, ask them what happens to the items they take and fact check them. If they tell you they recycle, ask them where they sort items.  Look online to determine if they have a location that allows for storage and recycling.  Honest answers should come from questions about pricing and procedures.

(Below is a picture of a trailer of scrap metal at our GI Junk shop.  We store metal until we have a full trailer so that it can be recycled.)

Junk Removal should be TRUSTED: What are other people saying?  Can you find the company online? Do they have a real website and real reviews from customers who used these services?  Look on social media.  Do your research to review the company profile and the profiles of the individuals who started the business.  Do they look like trustworthy humans?  Are they vested in their community?  In a day and age with unlimited access to technology, use your resources to learn about the people you’re going to trust in your home.  See what the community says about the trustworthiness of the vendor.

Doing your due diligence to investigate a junk removal vendor allows you to make an educated decision. It might not lead you to the cheapest offer, but it will lead you to a vendor who becomes part of your community and life.  Believe it or not, junk removal tends to be something that we have a need for more times than one.  Finding the right vendor means you have a solution for the next time you amass that stack of stuff in your garage that needs to be removed!
